Alby Hub - your Tool for monthly Budgeting

Alby Hub - Your personal finance Hub

Alby Hub is the easiest way to run a self-custodial wallet. With one-click setup, an intuitive interface and seamless app integrations, Alby Hub makes bitcoin payments accessible to everyone. You can manage your payments, connect to a growing ecosystem of bitcoin & nostr apps, and experience the future of programmable money – all from a single, powerful Hub.

The addition of subaccounts resulted in many great use cases. Using the internal Family & Friends app to onboard new people to bitcoin is just one of them. Here is another one that we observed among Alby Hub users: purpose-specific subaccounts. They seemingly start using Alby Hub as their management cockpit for all things bitcoin payments.

Create subaccounts for your monthly budget

Proper budgeting is one purpose to create a subaccount in your Alby Hub. It helps you prioritize and stay in control of your spending. One common method to create and manage your budget is called bucket budgeting. You split your available funds (e.g. your income) into different sized ‘buckets’ depending on what your priorities are. You can track these buckets in a spreadsheet, a budgeting app or directly in your Alby Hub with the help of subaccounts.

  1. Start by opening the "Friends & Family" app in the App Store of your Hub. This time we create a subaccount for ourselves.
  1. Add a name (e.g. Travel budget) and click “Create subaccount”
  1. You can now start allocating an initial budget by clicking "Increase". You can also decide if you want to access this account in another app such as Alby Go, another Alby account or the Alby Extension.

Both, Alby Go and the Alby Extension, let you add and use several subaccount-based wallets.

  1. You'll find your newly created subaccount on the "Connections" page

That's it. Click on the subaccount and allocate sats as you wish. 💰

You can also create subaccount for groceries, add it to the Alby Extension to buy supermarket giftcards from Bitrefill or the “Eating out” subaccount in Alby Go to pay for a coffee at a cafe chosen from BTC Map.

Each time you spend money, you’ll take it from its subaccount. When that bucket runs out, you’ll decide whether to cover the difference from a different account, or that you’ll go without.
