Nodana started out by offering Phoenixd hosting but wanted to offer more services in the Bitcoin space. Alby Hub was an obvious choice because of the interest it has generated since its release and the excellent feedback from its users.
Alby Hub is an easy to use, 24/7 online wallet with support for lightning addresses and an app marketplace. It features an LDK node as an integrated lightning node out of the box and can be optionally connected with other lightning funding sources including LND, Greenlight, Breez SDK and Cashu Wallets. It also supports Phoenixd meaning advanced integration options with Nodana hosted Phoenixd nodes will be possible in the future.
The app marketplace and connectivity broadens the range of use cases greatly. Users can plug-in their Alby Hub to dozens of apps such as BTCPay Server, LNbits and many other NWC-enabled apps.
How Nodana runs Alby Hub
Alby Hub was designed as a resource efficient application from the ground up. As a consequence you can run it on simple servers, Windows, Mac and Linux desktop computers or $15 USD minicomputers.
Alby maintains a container registry of Docker images. Thus, infrastructure operators can start Alby Hub with a single docker command and professional cloud hosting businesses can integrate Alby Hub in their product portfolio quickly.
The Nodana team leveraged these docker images to include Alby Hub in their own product portfolio of hosted apps.
All services on Nodana are hosted on Fly infrastructure which means each Alby Hub service gets its own dedicated memory and storage. In addition, all services are protected with a reverse proxy that implements rate limiting.
Alby Hub images are fetched directly from Docker Hub using Fly’s 1st class support for Docker.
Users will be able to run an update via the CLI themselves when a new version is released
